About Founder-Life Adventurer
After years of pursuing a career in finance, Grace decided to start her new journey as an entrepreneur...
It was just like something suddenly hit me. I know it sounds ridiculous since I am relatively young, but I kinda felt an urgency to take action: to chase my dream of being a woman entrepreneur, who can make a difference in this world and give something back - no matter how small it is.
I loved working in finance, and I still do. But I also have always had a passion for art and fashion. Many of my artist friends give me so much inspiration. It is not easy to be an artist, and their determination and persistence really touch me. I always wanted to have a way to work with them, which is where the idea of GH HAUS came from.
GH HAUS works as an art-centered product curator. We design art to sustainable fashion seamlessly. GH wants our customer practice art therapy when they shopping in GH. The same time they will receive art education through products categories from Minimalist, abstract, pop, illustrations. We are also a gallery that works with our artists to design the products associated with their work, because on the design side, our team seeks inspiration from the artists’ original paintings. In this arrangement, artists continue their creativity without any restrictions and they receive a percentage of profits from the sale of their IP. What we eventually want to achieve is for artists to have the freedom to continue their creation, free from economic stress. We truly love our artists and we work like a big family. We value their creativity above all, since our business is all about original work.
It is not easy being a woman entrepreneur, especially a minority woman entrepreneur. That said, I actually enjoy the many challenges I face. I can’t take “no” too personally, and I can’t have wounds open too long. It is common to get rejected, ignored, and wounded - this is as life should be. I have to keep telling myself this every day. I still have emotions and anxiety, but for me the best way to conquer fear is to take action instead of staying put. I always see myself as the adventurer who doesn’t care about where the journey ends. I don’t like to moan too much about what I lost and hurt, because everyone has their own problems. I don’t think it is wise to stay stuck in sadness; the right way might just be to move on with life’s positives and enjoy the bright side of things.
I keep telling all my girlfriends how much they should love themselves, since that is the lesson that took me so many years to learn. This is partly because of my upbringing: according to Chinese tradition, a woman is the one to always make sacrifices in a relationship and for family. I do have a conservative side, but losing yourself for others is just not the right direction for women. We need to maintain our core values of love and caring, hold on to our principles, and get our lives balanced. I love to try to fix life’s problems - my friends even joke: “is that why you pick the wrong guys to fix?” But it’s the same drive that contributes to being an entrepreneur.
I am quite spiritual in my own way, which is not typical since I was born and raised in China without any religious background. I came from China 7 years ago for graduate school. I believe life is a journey like a dream, where you come to this world for a mission. So light it up, don’t take small things too seriously, and don’t get too attached to the material world. Eventually, we will all leave without taking anything with us. I prefer living as life observer.
But in the past 20 years, China has changed so much. I am blessed to be born at the best time in China. Every time I go back to visit my family, I see the big changes there. Not only in technology, but also in the way people enjoy their life. More and more young collectors are coming out - people who appreciate the value of artwork more than ever. These observations made me think our company will do very well in the Asian market.
I love traveling, reading ,exercises, and experiencing different cultures. That is why I came to America to study, because I love the diversity of New York. Now I have a French Bulldog with me - he’s two and a half years old and is adorable. He is just a pure sunshine babe with unconditional love. I consider myself to be more of a global citizen, which I see as being all about individualities. That is why I am so excited to work with international artists - for their uniqueness as designers and people. GH HAUS believes in sustainable business, we want to create value for each product. Each product is designed artistically and with an emphasis on high end quality. We want our customer to embrace the beauty of the artwork and keep using those products for long term.
Art is therapy, I truly believe that. That is why I want to bring this therapy to everyone through GH HAUS products. We so appreciate our beloved artists trusting our vision of the Company. I can’t wait to continue my new life journey with my big family. When you are working on making a difference and giving it back to the world, you will have people of the same mind joining you along the journey.
